This is where it all began. Round baskets, woven over molds, made from the discarded masts and spars of ships. These baskets were first woven on the lightships over a century and a half ago. They are based, rimed and handled with native American ash wood and woven in cane ( the bark of the rattan plant). Old salts wove away their time on the lighthouse ship that saved lives through their efforts. These baskets stay true to form in every way down to their hand turned bone knobs that capture the handles to the rims. Each basket is lovingly sanded and repeatedly lacquered making the bodies strong, beautiful, and resistant to damage. The above set is finished in its natural honey color. Nathan is proud to present these baskets. In a lifetime of making baskets there are some that just sing. Among Nathan’s favorites is the 11-1/2” Classic. There is just something about this basket that all comes together to become truly special.
